Who is Assistant Professor Garland R. Johnson?
Assistant Professor Johnson was born on August 12, 1956 in Lufkin, Texas of Irish and French ancestry. He began his martial arts career in 1974 when he began studying Kempo at the Lowry Recreational Center in Texas City, Texas. By way of the United States Navy, Assistant Professor Johnson went on a 7 year quest in search of the best in the martial arts from it's origin in the orient. He studied the martial arts in 10 countries on 3 continents in search of the best. He found the best with Professor Buell there in Hawaii. Assistant Professor Johnson is a student of Professor Martin T. Buell training in Hawaii at the Wahiawa, Pacific Palisades, and Highlands Branches of Universal Kempo-Karate Schools Association. He received his Black Belt under Professor Buell in 1980. In June of 2005, Professor Buell promoted 7 persons to the rank of 8th Degree Assistant Professors. Those individuals were Brian Tokushima, Chris Ragone, Eric Guiang, Garland Johnson, Jesse Manegdeg, PeterPaul Abiva, and Robyn Kimura. Assistant Professor Johnson opened the United States Air Force Academy branch of Universal Kempo-Karate Schools on September 17, 1980. The Universal Team in Colorado has grown from that one location at the USAFA Youth Center (which is still in operation today) to 24 Branches of Universal Kempo-Karate Schools Association that blanket the local area known as the Pikes Peak Region. For 20+ years Assistant Professor Johnson proved to be a fierce open martial arts tournament competitors winning countless state, regional, national and international championships. He has trained many of the most successful martial arts competitors. Some of his notable moments were: 1979 Hawaii State Champion 1980 Rocky Mountain Region Champion in Black Belt Forms, Weapons and Spar 1981 Texas State Champion 1982 Kansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico State Champion 1983 California State Champion 1990 Rocky Mountain National Champion in Forms, Weapons andSparring 1993 New York National Champion 1995 NBL International Champion in Forms, Self Defense and Weapons 1996 World Champion in Black Belt Weapons 1997 World Champion in Black Belt Forms, Self Defense and Weapons Assistant Professor Johnson is the co-founder of the Colorado Karate Association (CKA) and United Martial Arts Professionals for Integrity, Reasonability and Ethics (U.M.P.I.R.E.). The Universal Schools are recognized as being of the finest martial arts organizations not only in the teaching of the martial arts, but also in business. Assistant Professor Johnson is a Advisory Board Member of Educational Funding Company and as such is chartered with helping other martial art school owners throughout the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom reach the same levels of success that The Johnson's enjoy. Assistant Professor Johnson's greatest fulfillment with the martial arts is enjoying teaching and helping the student who really needs help. He is devoted to the well being and education in assisting students of the martial arts to become effective leaders in society.

Who is Assistant Professor Bridget L. Johnson?
Assistant Professor Bridget L. Johnson was born on July 31, 1964 in Witcha Falls, Texas of Afro-American ancestry. She began her martial arts career in 1981 when she began studying Chinese Kempo-Karate at the United States Air Force Academy Youth Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Five years later she became the Head Instructor of the branch she began at. Assistant Professor Johnson received her Black Belt in June 1984 and received her 7th Degree Black Belt in June 2005. Assistant Professor Bridget Johnson is a student of Assistant Professor Garland R. Johnson For 15+ years she proved to be a fierce open martial arts tournament competitors winning countless state, regional, national and international championships. She has trained many successful martial arts competitors. Some of her notable moments were: 1983 Colorado State Champion 1984 Hawaii State Champion 1987 Rocky Mountain National Champion in Forms, Weapons and Sparring 1990 Oklahoma State Champion in Black Belt Forms, Weapons and Sparring 1991 Kansas Grand Champion in Black Belt Sparring 1995 NBL International Champion in Black Belt Sparring Assistant Professor Bridget Johnson is one of the original members of the Universal Kempo Demo Team which is a world class martial arts show team that has preformed in Europe, Asia, Canada, Central America and throughout the United States. Assistant Professor Bridget Johnson is co-owner (with her husband, Assistant Professor Johnson) of the Firestation Branch of Universal Kempo-Karate Schools Association that opened in 2006. In addition, she is the Co-owner of the Stetson Hills Branch that opened June 1, 2004. The Universal Schools are recognized as being of the finest martial arts organizations not only in the teaching of the martial arts, but also in business. Assistant Professor Bridget Johnson together with her husband are chartered with helping other martial art school owners throughout the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom reach the same levels of success that The Johnson's enjoy. Meet Chief Instructor Ryan Maddox
Chief Instructor Ryan Maddox is a 6th Degree Chief Instructor. Chief Instructor James Ryan Maddox was born on February 15, 1977 in Victorville, California of Irish and German ancestry. Chief Instructor Maddox began his martial arts career in 1988 when he began studying Chinese Kempo-Karate at the United States Air Force Academy Youth Center Branch of Universal Kempo-Karate Schools Association in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He received his Black Belt in 1992 and received his 5th Degree Black Belt in June 2003. Chief Instructor Maddox is a student of Assistant Professor Garland R. Johnson and Senior Chief Instructor Bridget L. Johnson. Having grown up in the Universal System by going through the Junior and Adult belt ranking system, he demonstrates a profound understanding of the concepts and techniques, fitting for his rank of 5th Degree - Chief Instructor. He is a martial arts tournament champion many times over in Point Sparring, Forms and Weapons. Chief Instructor Maddox is one of the original members of the Universal Kempo Demo Team which is a world class martial arts show team that has preformed in Europe, Asia, Canada, Central America and throughout the United States. Having been the past Head Instructor of the United States Air Force Academy, he is currently the Branch Manager for the Firestation Branch of Universal Kempo-Karate Schools Association.
