Assistant Prof. Judy Maddox began her training in 1989 under Assistant Prof. Bridget Johnson, along with her three sons. It was then that she knew that this would be a life long journey. With the love of the martial arts and working with children, Asst. Prof. Maddox obtained her Student Black Belt in 1992 and shortly thereafter opened her first branch of Universal Kempo Karate at Rampart High School. In 1996 she became Head Instructor of the Rockrimmon Branch and in June, 2009, she was Promoted to Assistant Professor, 8th Degree. Her training has included travel to China with Professor Martin T. Buell, the founder of the Universal Kempo-Karate Schools Association and several of the Association's Asst. Professors, Chief Instructors and students from Hawaii, Colorado, and all over the United States to train with the monks of Shaolin, as well as visiting various sites throughout China. Assistant Professor Maddox and the students have actively supported Universal Kempo-Karate's charter to "Give back to the Community we live in" by participating in many local events, including Colorado Springs Springspree, Colorado Springs Balloon Classics, Woodland Park's 4th of July in the Park, Alex Hoag Run, Sky Soxx, Walk for Children Diabetes, and many fundraising events such as the holiday food/gift drive for Silver Key. Assistant Prof Maddox is committed to providing a healthy and positive environment in order to assure growth and development of our students using the principles of the Mind, Body and Spirit. Students learn to develop awareness and confidence, physical fitness, respect, personal values skills and tools necessary to succeed and accomplish great things in both Universal Kempo-Karate and Life! Universal Kempo Karate-Schools is a family oriented school where you will develop life-long friendships with students locally and around the world. The Rockrimmon Branch of Universal Kempo-Karate is conveniently located in the Woodmen-Roberts Elementary School Gym, on the corner of Woodmen Road and Orchard Path Road. Classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday Evenings. Classes include Pee-Wees (4-6 yr. olds) Juniors (6+) and Adults.
